Is That Me? is a contribution to The One Minutes video archive‘s call for entries titled Synthetic Selves, initiated by the graphic design collective Goys & Birls. The chosen videos were screened at different locations all over the world (CN, IS, DE, FR, NL) alongside the launch of the second issue of Goys & Birls‘ magazine NXS.
With this work Fabian Reichle reflects on the fading borders between reality and cyber reality and on how humans can give themselves in to the seductive aspects of narcissism, self-staging and virtual make-up. For every profile on any social media platform one can create a new character, a new version of the self that one can use for representation, hiding weaknesses, promoting qualities, pretending and reinventing. In the video, Reichle shows himself tied to the glance of his counterpart in the mirror, torn between real world and cyber world.
